This is a dumbed down version of what I use for my portfolio image swapping. I repeat, this is REALLY dumbed down, but should give you a good start on how to modify it to be way more dynamic (dynamic in this sense of the title means that you’re using XML to call the images, because that’s about the only dynamic thing about this file in this form).

Anyway, you can really go crazy with this and make it super dynamic (like I did for my site), but I’d rather have you mess around with it and see what I’m talking about. I’d go the createEmptyMovieClip route to start off, and use setMask to set the mask of the images (once you open the source you will realize why I tell you this). If I get enough requests for it, I’ll go ahead and update this to be more dynamic, but I think for the most part it’s pretty self explanatory.

You can contact me with any questions you have on the current source file that I can answer. I can attempt to help you with questions you may have on future renditions of it that you have made, but I can’t guarantee an answer as I’m normally pressed for time, or I may just not understand you :P Anyway, enjoy!

    Hi,
Just thought you might be intrested to know, that you can’t download the source files until you make a comment. Thanks

I don’t think you’ve got that correct as I’ve had nobody tell me otherwise. I’m not sure why that was the case for yourself, but nobody on Kirupa said anything about it and everyone downloaded the file just fine. There is no setting in WordPress that controls this and it’s an external link anyway, so I’m not sure why you couldn’t get to it without leaving a comment. Sorry for the inconvenience. :\

    Hi,

This is awesome, I’ve been trying to do something like this for ages. Have you developed anything more dynamic that I can learn from ?

    Thanks!
